The Merrymen's first single is bog-standard rock'n'roll crafted under the influence of the Doors, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and all the rest. With an iconic guitar riff, perfectly distorted vocals and an ear-worm of a chorus, this should have been released in 1974 - anyhow it doesn't suffer from being fifty years late.
BREAK AWAY
The Far Beyond That EP includes three brilliant tracks: Far Beyond That, First Thing and Kant. The songs are almost Cure-esq in their melodic, frustrated vocal lines, kicking post-punk/indie bass, trebly guitar and earworm guitar riffs. This is the 21st centuries latest and most exciting response to the legacy of the Smiths, Cure and later 90s bands such as Guided by Voices.
